Zurich Small Amount and Short Term Insurance Ltd (Head Office: Nakano-ku, Tokyo; President: Tetsuya Hattori), a group company of Zurich Insurance Company Ltd, Japan branch (Tokyo Headquarters: Nakano-ku, Tokyo; Representative and CEO in Japan: Masachika Nishiura), has partnered with PayPay Insurance Services Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Yutaka Hyodo), a group company of LINE Yahoo Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Takeshi Idezawa), and PayPay Corporation (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Ichiro Nakayama) to launch the its new offering, “Smartphone Insurance”, through the “PayPay Insurance” mini-app*1 within the PayPay cashless payment service, starting October 28, 2025.
Smartphones have become essential tools in daily life today, and damage or breakdowns can result in significant stress and expenses incurred. As devices become more advanced, people are spending more time on their smartphones, using them for more tasks and different purposes*2. At the same time, parts are also becoming more expensive, and prices of these devices and their repairs continue to rise. This has increased the need for reliable insurance coverage, but many users remain uninsured due to high costs or restrictive conditions based on the timing or method of purchase. To address these challenges, Zurich is launching “Smartphone Insurance” through PayPay, a payment app with over 70 million users in Japan (as of July 2025). This new service makes it easy for more customers to get coverage. Regardless of mobile carrier, manufacturer, whether the device is new or used, or when and how it was purchased, the insurance covers repair and replacement costs for damage, water exposure, malfunction, and theft*3.
Delivered as part of its digital solution “Zurich Edge”, and leveraging strategic partnerships, Zurich continues to deliver innovative solutions in electronic payment services, and address customer needs while striving to provide valuable, attractive products and services.
The plan is available in three affordable options, starting at just JPY380 per month for the “Basic Plan.” Customers can choose coverage and complete enrollment easily within the app, and premiums can be paid with PayPay Points, PayPay Balance, or PayPay Credit, and payments made via PayPay earn PayPay Points*4.

The device must meet one of the following: (1) capable of wireless communication; (2) genuine manufacturer products sold in Japan, displaying the “Giteki mark”; (3) products sold in Japan by mobile carriers. Devices rented from leasing companies are excluded.
*4 Accumulated PayPay Points can be used at PayPay partner stores at a rate of 1 point = 1 yen. Points cannot be withdrawn or transferred. PayPay Points are awarded by PayPay, not Zurich.
